The Very First Post | 初めの一歩

Hello and welcome to my first-ever blog post. 
初めまして。

I’m Kanako Takahashi, a freelance Japanese-to-English translator living in northeastern Japan, in a lesser-known but charming place called Yamagata. I specialize in subtitle translation, aiming to bridge languages and cultures through words.

山形県在住、フリーランス日英翻訳者の高橋佳奈子です。字幕翻訳を専門とし、翻訳の仕事を通して日本と海外の架け橋となるよう、日々精進しています。

When I'm not translating, I work as an English guide in Yamadera, a must-visit spot in Yamagata known for its breathtaking views and rich history. Sharing the beauty and stories of Yamadera with visitors from around the world is something I value greatly.

翻訳の仕事以外では、観光名所の山寺で英語ガイドとしての活動も行っています。世界中から訪れるお客様に山寺の美しい景色と豊かな歴史をご紹介できることは、とても有意義な仕事だと感じています。

Additionally, I spend my free time engaging in rakugo, or, as I like to call it, "sit-down comedy." I am a member of a rakugo club and enjoy performing voluntarily at various events throughout Yamagata. Recently, I've taken up performing rakugo in English, providing me with an opportunity to share this traditional Japanese comedy form with an international audience as well.

また、アマチュアの落語家としての活動も行っています。山形落語愛好協会に所属し、県内の様々なイベントで落語を演じたり、最近では英語落語も始めたので、海外の方にも日本の伝統的なエンターテインメントをご紹介する機会を頂いています。

I started this blog to share snippets of my life, insights from my work, and stories from the world of subtitles and tourism. 

このブログを通して、山形での日常や仕事のこと、字幕翻訳とインバウンド観光についての話をしていけたらと思っています。
