New Year, New Goals | 新年の抱負

Happy New Year! 

I had quite a hectic end to 2024, leaving me no time to reflect until now. In this post, I'll take a quick look back at the past year and set my New Year resolutions. 

Last year, I took a leap of faith. I stepped away from being my husband's dependent to fully commit to my career as a translator. I hired a tax accountant, began a bimonthly column for the local newspaper, and was invited to speak at various events. I also had the pleasure of subtitling several movies and secured a regular subtitling job. And to top it all off, I decided to broaden my skills by studying interpreting. It was quite a busy year!

My goals for 2025 are as follows:

• Attend IJET and make new connections.
• Make a debut as an interpreter at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival (YIDFF).
• Travel solo.
• Restart my Spanish studies.
• Increase sales by 150%.
• Embark on a "100 blog posts in a year" challenge.

I think writing blog posts will be excellent practice for writing in my own words and will help me broaden my vocabulary. I'm planning to alternate between Japanese and English posts; that way, I can enjoy the process of writing in both languages. Anyway, here's to a new year filled with growth and inspiration!

新年あけましておめでとうございます。2024年末は慌ただしく、振り返りの記事を書く余裕がないまま新年を迎えてしまいました。今回は簡単に昨年の振り返りをしつつ、新年の抱負を立てたいと思います。

2024年は、思い切って独立を決意し、夫の扶養から外れて映像翻訳に専念するための環境を整えました。新たに税理士の先生と契約し、地元新聞のコラムに隔月で寄稿する機会を得たほか、さまざまなイベントで講師としてお招きいただく機会にも恵まれました。また、複数の映画の字幕翻訳や、定期的な字幕翻訳の仕事もいただきました。新しいチャレンジの極めつけが、通訳の勉強を開始したことです。忙しくも充実した1年だったと感じています。

2025年の目標は：

• 新たなつながりを求めて、IJETに参加する
• 山形国際ドキュメンタリー映画祭（YIDFF）で通訳者デビューを果たす
• 一人旅に出る
• スペイン語の勉強を再開する
• 売上を150％延ばす
• 「1年で100本のブログ記事を書く」チャレンジに挑戦する

ブログ記事執筆は、自分の言葉で書く良い練習になるだけでなく、語彙力を伸ばす良い機会になると考えています。今のところ、日本語と英語の記事を交互に書きながら楽しみたいと思います。

何はともあれ、自己鍛錬とインスピレーションに満ちた1年とになりますように！
